Yes. folks, Spring is now over and the long, hot Summer is upon us!
Nora Wixted-Hogue, Writer and Composer at BlueLew.com We so celebrated the last Jam of Spring! Blue Lew, Jim Remsberg, Shawn Shackelford and I got the night off to a seriously Blue start and were soon joined by "Rock Mann" Otis from "Muddbone" on guitar and also Bill Hahn (from "Call the Law") got his strings wailin' too! Before long, Scott Noble got up and played some with us and it was just too fine!!! After a week off, because of monsoons, we were all so ready to jam and jam we did indeed! About an hour later, it was time for our Featured Artist...

Amy Hart and her band were just fabulous!!! She has relocated to Nashville, gotten married to a wonderful Up-right Bassist, Wally, and has been touring quite a bit. We were lucky enough to catch her on a night off between New Orleans and Pensacola and OH-YEAH!!! We were lucky enough! Her Band is tight as a pair of skinny jeans and yet as flexible as a rubber band! They play off each other so very well and each member has their time to shine! All wonderful players! Amy played more blues on this show than I have ever heard her do...she said that since it was a Blues Jam, she would keep pretty much to the "Theme?" I have always been a big fan of her songwriting! And of her total musicality! Lots of her fans from the area showed up and were not at all disappointed!!! Boogie was jamming with the band on blues harp and for the last couple of song, Blue Lew traded licks on his harp with her awesome guitarist! Had them both sweatin' up a good storm and I know they would have kept it going all night if they didn't need a "Gatorade" break...My only wish is that Amy will get in touch with us so I can tell everyone the names of all the guys in the band!!! I know that Jay Platt was her drummer and Wally was on bass...who were the rest of the guys??? Amy, let me know!!! And let us know when you'll be back this way, again! We'll have another BIG FUN TIME!!!

I have to take a sec to brag about Blue Lew's Harmonica prowess!!! He is incredible when he doesn't have to worry about dropping his guitar! As his biggest fan, I would love it if he would take his guitar off once in awhile when we have so many other great guitarists jammim' and just blow his harp out!!! What do you think???

Our last set was a ball!!! Forgive me if I don't get everything right, but, Old Broad does the best she can!!! We had Charles Lawson from "Down Home Blues" on Bass, Ed Jones on Drums, Cindy on Tambourine, and just about everyone else jammin' away! Tina Lane (our artist next week) got almost her whole band up (Scott Noble, guitar, Randy "The Machine" Cowan, Drums, Sonny Bruce, Bass) and I just can't tell y’all enough how sublime her show is going to be this Sunday!!! Lionel DC came up and sang some most soulful stuff to end the evening and that was about all we had to jam...WHEW!!! It was a night! !!

That's about all for this week...Again, if Old Broad has forgotten anything or anyone, let me know!!! I welcome all info!!! Thanks to all at the Shed and the Beachcomber for all their support! And to our friends and fans...can't do it without you!!!

Live Large, Love and Laugh Alot And Make Music Any Way That You Can!

Love, Nora

I love it when July 4th falls on a Wednesday!
Nobody cares which weekend is the official holiday weekend so we celebrate all week long!!! PARTY ON AMERICA!!! God bless our Troops and keep them safe! They are truly the Keepers of the Precious Freedom that is the foundation of our Country! Never forget to keep them in your prayers!!!

Our first "Holiday Weekend Shed Jam" was almost too good to be true!!! Blue Lew, Jim Remsberg, Shawn Shackelford and I started off the night (as always) and, despite the soaring summer temperatures, got stuff off to a real hot beginning! There's nothing like working up a good musical sweat to keep you cool! (Big thanks to the breeze from the harbor for helping out, too...) We were really happy to get our good friend, Butch Blasingame, back up with us to jam on guitar - he's one rocker, for sure! After a few more tunes, we were ready for some Gatorade and a change of t-shirts! And a little time to say 'HI' to all the folks who were in the crowd - friends, family and "walk-ins" who heard the music and just had to come on in! I'm always happily surprised when I hear "We saw you last year and had to come back when we were on vacation again"! Keep on comin'!!!

Our "Featured Artists" this week were two of the members of "The Jersey Seals". Calling themselves (as a Duo) "The Overtones"...Aaron Overton and William Kortbein have been playing together for several years. William usually plays bass with the "Seals" but showed that he is also an accomplished guitarist and Blues Harpist, as well. They were "Unplugged" - they called it "Naked Music" but after a little ribbing, emphatically not "Naked Musicians"!!! - both playing acoustic guitars, and focused on some very intricate harmonies, vocally. Their repertoire ranges from The Beatles and Everly Brothers to some contemporary favorites and a few Originals, too. They ended their set with and invitation to the "Groove" to join in so we jammed on some "Rolling Stones" and other songs and had a blast! I've been a big fan of these guys for at least 3 years now - while they were still in High School, mind you!, and always love it when they are home from college and can come back to play for us! In fact, the entire "Jersey Seals" will be featured on July 29th! - their second time back to the Shed Jam by popular demand! - and I can't wait to see the Pabst Brothers (piano and drums) again, too. I just love these Guys!!! So does everybody else! So mark your calendars and come see the "Seals" before they're gone off to college again! It'll be kind of a "going away party"! Another Party!!! YAY!!!

Let me tell you about what happened next...Three young boys had signed in to jam and Lew got them up to the stage...my first reaction was "How Cute! Their Daddy brought them in to play with the Big Guys..."...They invited me to sit in with them on keys but, being a little leery at first (majorly stupid in retrospect!) I said I'd listen first and see about it...while washing my hands in the ladies room, moments later, I heard some incredible sounds coming from outside - I thought the Shed had gotten some really good new "break CDs" or something...I hurried to the Stage Patio and was immediately in the same condition as everyone else in the now fully packed crowd!!! Jaws To The KNEES!!! TO THE KNEES, I TELL YA!!! EYES POPPIN' OUT, DRINKS IN MID-SWILL, AWARD-WINNING BBQ MIDWAY BETWEEN PLATE AND MOUTH!!! The music coming out of these kids was AWESOME!!!!!!! My first impression was SO WRONG!!! They ARE the Big Guys!!! (and there was no way that I was going to Jam with them because I was afraid that I couldn't keep up!!!)(Honest!!!!!!) The Band called "Frets On Fire" is from Atlanta. Here for the "4th" Week with their families and heard about the Shed Jam...13 year old Alec Reinhardt on Guitar and Vocals, his 15 year old brother, Conner, on Bass and Vocals, and Logan Brammer (16) on Drums...they play with the conviction, confidence and passion of Pro's with years of experience!!! Not to mention the Licks of Masters!!! No Justin Beiber here, my Friends!!! They leave him in the dust!!! The music they played ranged from Funk to Blues to Soul to Rock - they could do it all with finesse! The Brothers' Vocals were Soulful way beyond their years and had the blend only brothers could have when singing together! ABACK, I was taken! ABACK!!! And they had all the moves, too, only it was an uncontrived reaction to the music...nothing "staged or unnatural" about their presence...and Logan's drums were all over them - every nuance, every breakdown, every wild and crazy moment!!! Needless to say, they got standing ovations after every song - and not because of their youth - it was their MUSIC!!!!!! I was deliciously inspired and humbled all at the same time!!! Then I learned that Logan's first instrument is Guitar and he was just helping out his friends by playing drums with them for the Jam because their regular drummer wasn't in town...WHAT??? He reminded me of my friend, Willie Green from the Neville Brothers, and he's a guitar player??? Can't wait to hear that!!! The bad news is that Logan won't be in town next weekend but Alec and Conner will be!!!!! Believe me when I say BE THERE!!! If you are not as amazed as I am at the talent of these fabulous kids, then you owe me a SoCo because, well, you just do!!!

We weren't even close to being done, yet! A new friend, and soon-to-be Destin resident, Robert Love, from Arkansas, jammed with the guys, playing guitar and singing songs that we all knew and many sang along! "Gary O" joined in on Blues Harp and Cindy was back shaking her tambourine (and her fine stuff, too) while Jim and Shack had the rhythm section goin' on. Blue Lew and I got back up for a few and also got the (elusive for the past couple of jams) wonderful Tony Forte up to blow some Harp, too. Butch was layin' down some more lead licks and it was all so good! Afraid that we would never be able to hear them again, we got "Frets On Fire" back up to close out the night! OH! The night was just the BEST!!!

What an unbelievable experience it is to be able to be part of the Beachcomber Shed Jam evey Sunday Evening!!! Not just for the Musicians but for everybody else, too!!! We never know what is going to happen and have yet to have been disappointed in the outcome! It is, by far, the best Blues Jam around! Why??? It's at the Shed on Destin Harbor!, totally Family oriented!, Great BBQ!, starts at 6pm (EARLY ENOUGH TO GET TO WORK ON MONDAY)! And "Blue Lew's Groove" (Beachcomber's Best Blues Artist 2011") welcomes all players to Jam! Not to mention the Beachcomber Staff, the friendly Shed Crew and the great folks who come there every Sunday to hear the music!!! We thank all of you for letting it happen!!!

HAPPY JULY 4th!!! And Every Day After!!!

Douglas Curle Rocks The Shed This Sunday at 7pm
Things are moving right along here at the LMLV Web

Since Blue Lew is a Southern Rock/Blues Man, I hope that any singers can either sing something we (sorta) know or bring a player that can lead us through the songs!

I've got to tell y'all - we had the most wonderful time at the Beachcomber Jam last Sunday
If you weren't there -well! - when you finish reading this, you'll wish you were!!! We had some of our "Old" Favorite Jammers come in and some of our "New" Favorite Jammers, too! And it was like a whole new "recipe" of music all night long!!!

Blue Lew, Jim Remsberg and I had Ed Jones (from "Blues Injectors") drumming in Shack's place for the night. We got started and got Scott Noble up right away on guitar, then Bill Hahn ("Call The Law") and Curtis "Rockman" ("Muddbone") got plugged in and it was guitar heaven for the rest of the first set! All four of them have their own style - spicy, tasty, different - and they play off one another with lots of love, respect and fun, all rolled into one big fat hunk of steamin' licks! Jim and Ed and I were having a ball backing them up! When you're playing music and laughing out loud in pure joy, it's just all so good!!! And it was, oh, yeah!...hot town, summer in the fishing village...time to refuel...and get ready for the next part of the night!

We were really happy to have Doug Curle, all the way from Pensacola, and his drummer, George, as our "Featured Artists". We met Doug several jams ago and knew we had to get him back! Besides being a great musician, he's also one of the most personable entertainers! He's on stage, but it's like the audience is in his living room...he just has that kind of "aura" about him...he's not a flashy player, he's not a flashy performer, he's the guy who plays the stuff we all like the way he likes to play it and we all like the way he plays it...did you get that? His music is honest and captivating. He started off with Jim and his bud, George on drums at first, and totally controlled the 3-piece thing - rhythmic leads in between his vocals and then started to get more of our mutual friends on stage! Roc Man, Boogie (harp with "Blues Injectors") and he even gave Jim a break and got Ron Stanley (another "Blues Injector") on bass...He just made as many of his buds get on stage as he could and they were all ready for the opportunity to jam with him! It was a fine "sight to hear", if you get my drift..."kick your feet up and stay awhile"...no wonder he has such a following!!! gotta check out Blue Lew's Video on Doug...oh so revealing!!! You will know exactly what i'm talking about!...He's a Keeper and will be back sometime soon!!! As soon as I find out where he's playing in the area, I'll let you know...and then you can take me to his gig with you, OK?

OK...y'all heard about the "Frets On Fire" kids...from my last blurb...well, they came back for one more jam...OMG...if I were 46 years younger!!!...but no!!! The Reinhardt brothers (Conner on bass and Alec on Guitar) had their band mate, Kevin, guitarist and saxophonist (SAXMAN??? Y'ALL KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT SAX MEN!!!!)(oh, no...i'm lusting after a sax player young enough to be my grandchild but he didn't bring his sax on vacation...truly...i'm lusting after his sax!!!) I cannot say how much I admire these young men!!! Read my last blurb, please, so I don't have to reiterate...so I'll speak of one of their guitarist, Kevin - last name unknown - holy mackerel!!! His voice is so incredibly attune to the other guys!!! I can't imagine a more perfect addition to their already amazing set!!! Alec had fallen on his skim-board (how many times has that happened to us, in our younger years, and sprained his wrist) but still managed to play the set we had for them like a pro!!! My Beautiful Baby Doll, Rebecca Hope Akers, (pianist "outrageuosly-extrordinaire" and young and gorgeous!) stopped by and I told her that these kids would blow her face off and she said "OK! No Face Left! Will they let me jam?" Come on, Baby! YO!!! Well! The Frets let Rebecca fire them up and it was a sight to be heard!!! All of us "Old Jammers" were dancin' in pure joy, again!!! And Ed Jones was in a fabulous place giving them all the percussion they needed! (I told him about them and he was so ready to back them up! But I think he lost a few pounds that he wasn't expecting to...) If I were lucky enough to have had children, they would have all been mine!!! All us "old jammers" including Doug, Ed Coolis , Blue Lew, you name us...were in a state of AWE!!! And it was not "awe, they're so cute" it was AWE!!!OMG!!! (I was lucky enough to have Connor and Kevin play "Steamroller Blues" with me and Rebecca played the keys so I was out in front for a big change!!! Loved IT!!! Sweet Cindy was holding down tambourine and Old Broad was feeling all the love and inspiration from the new kid stuff so I got to say that, with their help, I was told that I wailed...I think that's a compliment...oh, 40 years younger...)

The last set was a big jam with all the players!...I wish I could give everyone the feeling that was going on!!! Like I said, if you weren't there, you missed it!!! We have so many outrageously fine players come in to jam with us...it's not a regular thing...not the same band all night...just the best players in the area all night jammin' together and having fun doing it! We missed a few because they had to leave earlier than we expected - Lee on Guitar, Ed Coolis on Blues Harp, and Charles Lawson on Bass...PLEASE come back and let us know if you have a time-line!!! We want to get all of you up to play!!! So Much Music!!! So Little Time!!!

We ended out the night with a major jam - you got it you play it!!! Everybody dancin', Cindy playing tambourine, everybody just having a great time!!! The place was just all happy and there wasn't any more to do but go out and hug everyone and each other! That's one of the things that I love about the Shed - the staff are all about the hugs and love and just being the sweetest wait staff around! And Chris Manson from the Beachcomber came by to say "Hi" and it was just the best evening!!!

We are so very lucky to have the support of the Beachcomber Staff and the Shed Crew!!! And all of you!!! Without you, this great music couldn't happen!!! We will keep it going as long as y'all keep us going! Let's GO ON!!!

Live Large, Laugh And Love Alot, And Make Music Any Way That You Can!!!

Love, Nora

Sure wish I could be there! I know the crowd won't be disappointed.
We have had the most wonderful Jammers in the area come by and last Sunday was no exception!!!
I am so lucky to be a part of what happens on Sundays at the Shed!!! Not only am I the keyboardist but I get to hug everyone!!! We have had the most wonderful Jammers in the area come by and last Sunday, July 15th, was no exception!!! Blue Lew, Jim Remsberg, Shawn Shackelford and I got the night rollin' but we had Patrick Wilson (Cadillac Willy) on the steel guitar and, let me remember, Butch Blasingame, Bill Hahn, and Scott Noble all sitting in an guitars! So many styles! So MUCH FUN!!! And that was just the beginning!!! We had the best time bein' the "Groove" and buds!!! And then it was time to get set up for our "Featured Artists"...

CALL THE LAW!!! (best band name ever!) Bill Hahn, guitarist, Doug Quillan on bass, and Joey Taylor on drums! These guys have been Fave's of ours for a long time! They play lots of rock legend tunes (like Lynyrd Skynyrd) (hey, I'm a jazz and R&B child - if i spelled LS wrong - the spell check won't get it either!) (Such is Rock And Roll)!!! To their own originals - that's what they are the best at!!! These guys have been together for a long time and have the Rock Trio thing goin' on!!! Once you hear their own stuff, you get hooked on them! It's Fun to dance to and fun to hear! Their originals stick in your head and their covers are song you love! The folks were havin' a Time!!! Love to dance to good Stuff!!!

THEN...the last couple of sets were amazing!!! J.B. Lawson brought his new bassist, Randy, with him and the Blues Man took over the stage! Sweet and Lovely Rebecca Hope Akers took over my keys and Boogie and Tony Forte did some awesome Blues Harp trading licks ! Bill and Scott couldn't help but get their guitars into the Jam and Dano got some drums going on, Dr. Zydeco scratched on some "Rub Board", and it was too much good music!!! Ron Stanley got some bass going on, too...How many great players we have around here!!! And the Shed Jam is the best place to hear all of them playing together just because they WANT TO!!! It's the most incredible "coming together" of players!!! And I got to sing "up-front" with all these greats!!! Oh, Happy Day!!!

Once again, if I have forgotten anyone, let me know!!! Old Broad will be "celebrating?" her 59th Birthday on August 9th...last time for a "5" starting my age...OH MY!!! So forgetting things (wish I could forget that I'm so old...) may happen... PLEASE let me know if I have!!! I so want to get everyone into my blurb!!!

And big thanks to all of the Shed Crew, the Staff at the Beachcomber, and all of our friends and fans for supporting the Sunday Beachcomber Shed Jam!!!

Live Large, Love And Laugh Alot, And Make Music Any Way That You Can!

Love, Nora

Can't wait to hear Blues Injectors this Sunday - missed them last time cuz i had a gig with Big Daddy O out of town...and we just might have a real good bud of mine from NO, Wally B., sitting in on keys, too! Too much fun!!! See ya Sunday!

Hey folks, don't forget to move your mouse over each image to read and see, a little bit more!
With The "Dog Days" Of Summer Swiftly Approaching...
The Beachcomber Jam at the Shed has been gettin' hotter every week! Musically, that is!!!

Blue Lew, Jim Remsberg, Shawn Shackelford and I got the night off to a rockin' start! Ed Jones (from Blues Injectors) had his drums set up, too, so it wasn't long before he and Shack got into some amazing dual-drummin' stuff! Boogieman Skinner (also from BI's) got his Blues Harp warming up for their show and he and Lew traded licks all over the place! Our very good bud, bassist Chris "how 'bout it" Clarke and his lovely wife, Julie, showed up surprising us all! We're all so glad to have him back in town! So we had to get him up on stage, too, giving Jim a little time to cool off...and "Roc Man" from Muddbone, got his guitar plugged in and we jammed some more! And that was just the first set, y'all!!!

Blues Injectors - our Featured Artists - got their gear turned on and ready to go...I missed them last month when they performed for us because I was playing with Big Daddy O out of town, so I've really been looking forward to hearing them - and I was NOT disappointed!!! These guys have only been together for a couple of months but they blend so well that you'd swear they've been at it for a lot longer! They are Ed Jones on Drums, Boogieman Peeps Skinner blowin' Blues Harp, Ron Stanley holding down the Bass and Pat Pritchard as Lead Vocalist and Guitar, and "Youngblood" J.Doc Eddins also tearing up on Lead Guitar...Seriously tight and as much fun to watch as they are to listen to! Excellent Blues Rock Stuff! The crowd was dancin' up a storm! And Ed Jones got in some lead singing, too! I've jammed with Ed a lot and never knew he could sing!!! He's gonna have a Vocal Mike from now on!!! The band has lots of energy and it's contagious! By the time their set was over, all of us were BIG FANS!!! These guys will be back every month for the rest of the summer - that's how much we love these guys!!!

The surprises were not over!!! One of my favorite young lady players, Lauren Berard, totally shocked me when she and her mom and dad walked in!!! She first came to the Jam when she was still in high school about 3 years ago, and has since finished her sophomore year at FSU...and is not only sweet, talented and gorgeous, but smart, too...we're talking Dean's List Smarts! She plays guitar and sings like a bird - I have always loved her voice! It was the best to hear her again! Lots of the folks in the audience remembered her and were just as happy as I was to see her again! You should have seen the look on Blue Lew's face! I just love surprises!!! She played solo and had the crowd in the palm of her pretty little hand! She will go far in whatever she wants to be and I sincerely hope she always keeps her music active - she's just so good at it! Thank you darlin' and come back as much as you can!

My next surprise was the wonderful Season Ammons! She and her drummer, Silo Clay, were in the neighborhood and stopped in for a jam of their own! She grabbed Ron Stanley and J.Doc Eddins from Blues Injectors to fill out the band and took absolute command!!! She's a great songwriter and can make her voice go from seductive to razor sharp whenever the mood strikes her! Also an accomplished guitarist, she had the place rockin' and rollin' for sure! She's been playing a lot in the area so make it a point to catch her if you can! You will be glad that you did!!!

Next surprise? Kevin Pabst, Keys and vocal from "The Jersey Seals" brought his friend Moses, on guitar, in with him and they showed off some new stuff as a duo! I'm always so happy to see Kevin and he's with the "Seals" at this Sunday's Jam as our Featured Artists before they all go off to college again...Oh, Summer is so fleeting! At least I know these fabulous kids come back to see me when they can - they'll always have a home on my stage!!!

Our last set was a veritable plethora of fine musicians! Gary Spaulding on Blues Harp, The guys from the Injectors, Chris Clarke, and even Andy Durand!!! Playing Drums!!! Is there anything musical that he can't do??? We just had too much fun! The musicians were switching up turns so fast that I couldn't keep up with it all!!! and with 2 full Drum kits on stage, we had room for lots of drummers! Lots of guitars and Harps and basses and singers - so much music - so little time!!! The place was packed from start to finish! Where else in town can you hear so many different players and styles in one evening? I am so lucky to be part of the Shed Jam!!! And so is everybody else - musicians and friends and fans alike! We were all worn out, in a very good way, by the time we had to call it a...NIGHT!!! And what a night it was!!!

Just a quick note, our very dear friends, Roland and Leta Kok celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary with us on Sunday!!! There are no better folks and we love them so much!!! Happy, Happy, HAPPY!!!

Once again, if I have missed anything or anyone, help me out!!! Old Broad has an old brain, after all, and I can use all the help I can get!

And BIG THANKS to the Shed crew for letting us throw this MUSICAL PARTY every week and taking such good care of all of us! And to the Beachcomber Staff for all their support and to all our friends, fans and families who come out to party with us! You keep us at it, can't do the Jam without y'all!!

See you next Sunday! 'Til then, Live Large, Love and Laugh Alot and Make Music Any Way That You Can!!! Love, Nora
Wow!! Michael Loftis finally got the Money Shot of Nora...He said he had been trying for years to get this one!!! Thanks, Michael, for all the fantastic photos!!!
